How to FULLY jailbreak your iPod Touch 2G 2.2.1

Yes it's here! The Dev Team have released the FULL jailbreak for software version 2.2.1! This means you can safely switch your iPod Touch 2G off and back on without having to re-jailbreak it. This method is for Windows XP and for users with an iPod Touch 2nd Generation on 2.2.1 software version. I am not responsible for your hardware if any damage is caused by using this method. If done correctly it should work fine!

These steps (excluding download time and install time) should not take more then a couple minutes! It really is this simple.

Method:

1. Firstly you need to download the custom firmware and the tool to jailbreak your iPod. We will be using QuickFreedom for this. Below are the download links for these two pieces of software:

2. Once QuickFreedom is downloaded you must run the setup.exe file and install it. Make sure you have the Customer 2.2.1 FW downloaded before continuing. Connect you iPod Touch to your computer and run the QuickFreedom software and click the middle image with the padlock.
   
   
3. On the next screen you will have to make sure LibUSB is installed and the restore firmware is found. If you don't have LibUSB click and install it. Once you have them both done you should get two green ticks on the left and then select the Next step.
   
   
4. As we have already downloaded our firmware you can click Next again to continue.
   
   
5. Now you must put your iPod Touch into DFU mode. This allows the software to be edited. To do this just simply press and hold both the Power and Home buttons at the same time for 10 seconds, once you have counted to 10 let go of the Power button and count another 10 seconds with your finger still on the Home button. Your iPod Touch should now be recognised with your computer as being in DFU mode. iTunes should pop up and let you know it is in DFU mode.
   
   
6. Go back to QuickFreedom and click 'Start Pre-Jailbreak'. After a few seconds your iPod Touch should have a plain white screen and you will be prompted by QuickFreedom that your iPod has succeeded the Pre-Jailbreak stage. Click Ok and select Next.
   
   
7. Now go back to iTunes and you should have the option to Restore your iPod Touch. Hold down the Shift key and left click on Restore. A navigation window will appear. Find and select your Custom 2.2.1 FW we downloaded at the start and open it. Your iPod should now start to restore with the new Custom Jailbroken firmware.
   
   
8. Allow some time for the firmware to install onto your iPod. Once it is completed your iPod will re-sync and you should have all your music and apps back as normal along with Cydia and Installer.
